Tale of the Whale

Tale of the Whale invites visitors to experience marine communication through an immersive sculptural installation. A massive whale form emerges from the floor constructed from precision-cut wooden layers. This architectural sculpture employs the same layered construction technique as wooden toys but at a larger scale using CNC fabrication technology.

Visitors can climb into the head of the whale via integrated stairs where an interactive sound experience awaits. The installation transforms human voices into whale songs in real-time. Advanced audio processing analyzes the pitch and volume of visitor vocalizations creating corresponding whale sounds from authentic recorded samples. Deep vibrations let visitors physically feel how whale songs travel through water demonstrating the power of marine communication.

This playful yet educational installation helps visitors understand how whales use sound to navigate communicate and maintain social bonds across vast ocean distances. The combination of tactile architectural elements and interactive sound design creates an engaging platform for learning about marine mammal communication. Through direct participation visitors gain insight into the sophisticated ways whales interact in their deep-ocean environment.
